Highlands & Islands Climate Festival
The Highland & Islands Climate Festival is a celebration of localism and community engagement with a focus on climate action to be held from 1st – 30th September 2023.
Find details about the upcoming events and how you can submit your own below. A dedicated website is now live with details of all Climate Festival events.
The Highlands and Islands Climate Hub has offered overarching support in creating and managing the website and social media channels. However, the beauty of the festival is that the decision-making powers lie with the communities who take part.

SSE Renewables is assessing the potential for an extension to Fairburn wind farm, near Marybank in the Highlands.
The site is located to the south and east of Orrin Reservoir, within the Highland Council local authority area and the Marybank, Scatwell and Strathconnon community council constituency.
At present it is proposed that the wind farm would comprise approximately 14 turbines with a height of approximately 200 metres to the blade tip. Each turbine would have an installed capacity of up to 6.8 megawatts (MW) which would give an anticipated installed capacity of up to 95MW.
A request for a scoping opinion from Scottish Government Ministers was submitted in July 2022 and was received back in October 2022. The scoping opinion allowed Scottish Ministers to set out the information that should be included in the Environmental Impact Assessment report.
Next stage
SSE Renewables is now engaged in a full programme of consultation with stakeholders, including neighbours and community organisations in the local area.
The layout and scale of the proposed development is under consideration, and will be informed by survey and assessment work at the site.
Three public exhibitions are being held to gather feedback on the initial plans for the wind farm. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions and hear your thoughts on the early plans for the wind farm. The final exhibition is on
Monday 18th September 2023 - Contin Village Hall, 2-7pm.
